Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalkers Ending Was Changed During Filming

Although its important for a script to be finished by the time a movie starts shooting, that doesnt mean certain elements of the story wont change during filming. In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkers case, its ending went through various changes in the creative process, including as the cameras were rolling on the final installment of the Skywalker Saga. As Daisy Ridley recalled when asked how she found out about The Rise of Skywalkers ending:

J.J. had told me and then I read the script, and then it was sort of shifting. The ending was always pretty similar, and then I was told there was a new, I guess, a slightly different beat added that I was told, which was awesome. Because it's nice to be told a thing, and then you can experience it with the filmmaker. But also, we don't always know how it's going to turn out. We did the thing on this side of the camera, but we don't know how it's going to turn out. So I'm as excited to see it as everyone else.

So going off what Daisy Ridley told Fox 32 anchor and ReelBlend cohost Jake Hamilton, while the overall scope of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkers ending sounds like it will be the same as what J.J. Abrams told the actress who knows when, there were some minor adjustments made during the course of production. Even then, given that theres still a lot of postproduction work to finish, plus any time that might be set aside for reshoots, maybe even more changes will be implemented.

Of course, given how secretive Disney and Lucasfilm are when it comes to upcoming Star Wars movies, even in comparison to other major film franchises, we probably wont get any inkling of what Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkers ending holds in store through advertising and marketing. Ideally after the movie has come out, Daisy Ridley, J.J. Abrams or someone else on the cast and crew will be forthcoming about how the final ending differed from what was originally put on paper.

Taking place approximately a year after the events of The Last Jedi, no specific plot details for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have been revealed yet. That said, the trailer did reveal some interesting tidbits, like how the protagonists will be visiting a site containing some Death Star wreckage and that Emperor Palpatine will somehow fit into the proceedings.

Daisy Ridleys Rey is joined by other familiar faces from the Star Wars movies, like John Boyegas Finn, Oscar Isaacs Poe Dameron, Adam Drivers Kylo Ren, Mark Hamills Luke Skywalker and Billy Dee Williams Lando Calrissian, while unused footage of Carrie Fisher from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi will allow Leia Organa to be included. As for new characters, Naomi Ackies Jannah will be along for the ride, as will Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant and Dominic Monaghans still-to-be-identified players.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20. Just your friendly neighborhood writer giving you the heads up that there are SPOILERS ahead for Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame may have offered the universe some much-needed avenging, but theres still a lot to be addressed about whats next for many of the MCU's characters after the snap. When things pick up next with Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home, well learn more about the fallout of Thanos Infinity War with the Avengers, including the new dynamic between the dusted and the those who have lived five years without them.

According to a recent Fandango interview with Far From Home director Jon Watts, we have some clarity about the fate of Aunt May prior to the upcoming Spidey film. Heres what he said:

She disappeared and came back.

It looks like Marisa Tomeis May suffered the same fate as her nephew. Strangely enough, this is probably preferable to if shed survived, because she would then be mourning Peter following the previous death of Uncle Ben if she had. How heartbreaking! Directors Joe and Anthony Russo said in an interview last year that she had survived, but during the making of Far From Home, things changed.

Jon Watts also teased how the Spider-Man movie will tie into Endgame with these words:

So many things happened in Endgame, but you don't see any of the fallout. So I used Peter Parker/Spider-Man as an opportunity to get that ground-level perspective to show you what it would look like if all these crazy things had happened. What would day-to-day life be? If you were snapped away, youd have to work backwards and retake your midterms.

The biggest way Endgame shifts the Spider-Man sequel is hell be going to high school in a world where half of his past classmates now have an age gap with him, and Watts has confirmed that Far From Home will definitely be addressing this. Looking at this through the world of Peter Parkers story arc is a great choice to because hes the most ground-level hero dealing with everyday life as a student in NYC.

Jon Watts said Far From Home will pick up almost immediately after Endgame and deal with the implications of the Infinity Saga culmination. In addition to Peter and May, it looks like Ned, Michelle Jones, Flash Thompson and Betty Brant were victims of the snap as well since they dont look like they got older and will be going on a class trip to Europe.

Additionally, it looks like Peter will be dealing with the death of his mentor Tony Stark and a new exciting addition to the MCU: the multiverse. According to the recent trailer, one of the Infinity Stones-powered snaps ripped a hole in the universe, bringing in a much nicer Mysterio than comic book fans remember, as well as the Elementals. The film will wrap up Phase 3 when it hits theaters on July 2.

How Peter Berg Is Reinventing Car Chases On Mile 22

By design, the bulk of Peter Berg's upcoming thriller Mile 22 will be set in cars. The plot finds a special ops team leader (played by Mark Wahlberg) who is ordered to bring a valuable witness (played by Iko Uwais) from a U.S. embassy to an airstrip that's located 22 miles away. The plane will carry the witness to safety. Only, every stretch of the 22-mile run will be marked by the presence of lethal antagonists ordered to do everything in their power to stop Uwais' character from reaching the plane.

Earlier this year, CinemaBlend traveled to Bogota, Colombia to watch Peter Berg and his cast film scenes from Mile 22. The bulk of what we witnessed involved a shootout outside of the embassy in question, as the team's difficult journey was just getting underway. But as we spoke with the cast, they started telling us about how Berg is going the extra mile -- no pun intended -- to bring an authenticity and a visceral intensity to his car-chase scenes, as they are pivotal to the bulk of the movie. Co-star Lauren Cohan, who plays a member of Mark Wahlberg's team, explained to us:

We had weeks of rehearsal and prep before shooting. We started shooting in Atlanta. Kevin Scott, who directs the second unit and has sort of created all these amazing mechanisms to do these [car] stunts with, talked us through and showed us videos and photos. ... None of it really prepares you for how you get this shit done. [Laughs] Especially on very, very bumpy streets, and with cameramen strapped to the sides of cars that are supposed to look beaten up, and sometimes are beaten up. It's been really fun. Some of the rigs are, I can't remember what it's called, the one where our [actual] driver is on top of the car, and we're just driving. It's pretty surreal. You're whipping around corners, and nobody's holding the wheel, but they are.

These rigs, built on the sides of and on top of moving automobiles, further push the point made by Mile 22 executive producer Stuart M. Besser, who said that Peter Berg's approach to on-the-ground and in-your-face filmmaking made Berg the perfect choice for this type of thriller. The producer explained:

I'm a huge fan of doing everything in camera. I was working with Scotty Waugh on Need for Speed, and he wanted to do everything in camera as well, and I think it benefits the film. It does look more real, no matter how good visual effects have gotten nowadays. And the actors are there. And it really, it matters. We do it in a safe, prudent manner, so I'm never concerned about the safety of a performer or any of the crew. And I think, when you can do that, the actors are more in touch with it, rather than being in a room that's green and pretending.

This point was later echoed once again by The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan, who was discussing an obstacle -- but also an added benefit -- of shooting on the run in a car while you are being chased, knocked into and shot at. She said that very often, while filming intense chase scenes for Mile 22, you were improvising because you couldn't hear direction. You were reacting to the events happening in the moment. So nothing was truly scripted in those instances, and your reaction couldn't really be wrong. Cohan said:

The way that Pete shoots, you just keep going and if something's not quite right, or you want to go back, it's like, we don't have to start the whole thing over again. He's just there on what we're calling The God Mic. He's like, 'Hey, can you do this?' ... The stuff in the car was so especially fun, because we had the four of us basically driving around and -- first of all, we're driving so fast we couldn't actually hear very well, the direction. So if somebody hears the direction, it's like, 'Okay, it was this. It was this. Okay cool.'So it really informs the team that we are in the film. But also, just us feeling like we just have each other. We just have each other's back. All we want to do is everybody stay in [the scene] and have fun and get it right and give it the right emphasis and the right energy, and give it stakes, the way that the story needs. It's very... you don't even have time to worry if you're doing it right, because you're going to get told if you're not and it's going to be okay, so you just kind of keep going.

The intense automobile chases, and the fights that will happen inside, outside and around these moving vehicles, have us very excited for Peter Berg's Mile 22. In one quick fight sequence we witnessed, the ever-agile Iko Uwais was handcuffed to a car door, and used a seatbelt to disarm multiple antagonists. Berg is really plunging his audience into the action, and embracing the limitations that come with setting a chase movie in a series of steady moving cars.
