Disney's Prince Charming Will Resemble The Princess Bride, And We're So In

Disney's Prince Charming Will Resemble The Princess Bride, And We're So In

It is no secret that Disney has an army of movies in development right now. One of the most interesting of the bunch is Prince Charming, which will be helmed by The Perks of Being A Wallflower's Stephen Chbosky, and has remained relatively under-the-radar since its announcement. That said, while speaking with CinemaBlend to promote the home release of Wonder, Chbosky revealed that his approach to Prince Charming shares parallels with Rob Reiner's 1987 classic The Princess Bride in its take on the romance/adventure genre. Per Chbosky:

You know what they can expect? They can expect Prince Charming to be very cool. Yeah. It's gonna be a really cool movie. Like Princess Bride meets Disney kind of thing. It's like that. It's fun. It's a really fun romantic adventure and I'm very excited about it.

If you're a fan of classic, swashbuckling fairy tales, then Stephen Chbosky's promise of a Prince Charming movie in the vein of The Princess Bride should feel pretty exciting. He wouldn't go into detail about any specific plot elements during his chat with CinemaBlend, but referencing The Princess Bride conjures an apparent sense of tone and style in the minds of most audiences. There will be swordplay and romance, but there could also be a self-aware sense of irreverence that makes it even more exciting.

All things considered, Stephen Chbosky probably already knows a thing or two about the world of The Princess Bride. After all, he did manage to cast Inigo Montoya actor Mandy Patinkin as Mr. Tushman in his 2017 film Wonder.

Are we saying that Mandy Patinkin will make an appearance in Prince Charming? Absolutely not. That said, now that we have addressed the possibility, it is hard not to think about how cool it would be.

Framing a Prince Charming movie in the spirit of The Princess Bride seems to show a willingness for the folks at Disney to branch out and evolve classic stories in fascinating ways. This move arguably feels somewhat similar to the rumors related to Niki Caro's upcoming Mulan movie, which have suggested that the live-action remake of the classic Disney cartoon will have an action-heavy tone that focuses on martial arts to help set it apart from films like Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella.

Although we don't know a ton about the upcoming Prince Charming movie, we do know the plot won't totally be like The Princess Bride. Early rumors related to the film have suggested a story focusing on the titular character's brother as a black sheep who doesn't quite fit in with his family, rather than on the more familiar and beloved Prince. That in itself is a far cry from what we're used to seeing from Prince Charming or The Princess Bride worlds, so it seems that Stephen Chbosky is still going to try and give audiences something fresh with this well-worn storyline.

With all of that said, although the promise of a Prince Charming movie in the vein of The Princess Bride is intriguing, we will just have to see how the film comes together as it continues to develop. For now, Stephen Chbosky's Wonder is now available on Digital HD, and the Blu-ray will hit shelves next week on February 13. If you are looking for more information about all of the films set to debut in 2018, hop over to our movie premiere guide!

How Captain Marvel Might Retcon A Key Piece Of Carol Danvers' Origin

How Captain Marvel Might Retcon A Key Piece Of Carol Danvers' Origin

Before Avengers 4 picks up where Avengers: Infinity War left off and wraps up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 3 with the biggest of bangs, we'll be taking a trip back to the 1990s to see what Carol Danvers was up to. This morning, the first Captain Marvel trailer finally dropped and packed with all kinds of awesome moments, but it also revealed something unusual about our heroine: she doesn't remember who she is. A few weeks back, we learned that at the start of Captain Marvel, Carol is serving on the Kree military team known as Starforce, but as this preview showed, evidently she's missing most or all of her memories of living on Earth. That by itself is interesting enough, but it also appears to be a retcon of Carol's earliest days fighting evil as Ms. Marvel (her original superhero identity), where she suffered from a split personality.

For those unfamiliar with Carol Danvers' origin in the Marvel Comics universe, she gained her special abilities when her genetic structure was changed by the Psyche-Magnitron machine, turning her into a half-human/half-Kree hybrid. This kicked off Carol's superhero career, but initially, Carol and Ms. Marvel were two distinct personalities. Whenever a super villain or other crisis would pop up on her radar, Carol would black out, Ms. Marvel would take control and once the situation was resolved, Carol would revert back to normal, with no memory of what she'd done in her costumed guise. It was similar to Bruce Banner and The Hulk's dynamic, although eventually Carol received treatment for her fractured mind, and ever since then Carol and Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel/whatever identity she's using have been one and the same. Captain Marvel, however, looks to be flipping the split personality on its head by making Carol forget she's human.

Here's what we can piece together from the Captain Marvel trailer and the news that's come out recently. The above shot seemingly confirms that Brie Larson's Carol Danvers will obtain her powers through a similar situation as her comic book counterpart, although whether the exploding device is the Psyche-Magnitron or another Kree device remains to be seen. However, this will likely be shown as a flashback, as it's already been confirmed that Captain Marvel begins with Carol already a Starforce member. We later hear Carol in the trailer saying she "thinks" she had a life on Earth, but she isn't sure if these memories are real or not.

So for whatever reason, upon receiving her powers, Carol forgot about her past as a human, and at the start of the movie, she believes that she's a Kree warrior, similar to how the Ms. Marvel personality functioned back in the day. This explains why she's so dedicated to the Kree and expands upon why Jude Law's Mar-Vell has a special relationship with her. Although then we enter dicey territory when considering that not only does Mar-Vell almost certainly know about Carol's past and isn't telling her about it, but that he (or someone high up in the Kree hierarchy) also might be taking measures to ensure that doesn't regain her memories, thus ridding the heroine of her agency. Either way, upon returning Earth, Carol will put the pieces together and remember her old life.

Back in 2016, Nicole Perlman, who worked on the Captain Marvel script with Meg LeFauve before Geneva Robertson-Dworet took over, said that the movie wouldn't be doing a straightforward adaptation of Carol Danvers' origin story, otherwise it would come off as being too similar to Green Lantern's. Plus, Carol's energy-based powers come from a separate experience after Rogue drained stole her original powers, and all of that is way too convoluted to adapt for film and impossible to faithfully pull off since the X-Men film rights don't reside at Marvel Studios yet. So it was to be expected that MCU Carol's backstory would differ from comic book Carol's, and split personality angle is frankly cliched, so it's for the best that this isn't being adapted for the big screen. Giving her amnesia, on the other hand, is an intriguing approach and provides inner conflict for Carol to struggle through. By the end of Captain Marvel, we can likely expect Carol to revert back to her regular self (albeit changed by her experiences fighting for an alien species), and by Avengers 4, hopefully she'll more closely resemble the Carol we know from the printed page.

Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for continuing coverage. In the meantime, look through our Marvel movies guide to find out what else the MCU has in development, as well as our 2018 release schedule to learn what movies are left to be released this year.

Specifically, they have multiple vertical lines extending from their lower lip to their chin — a look that was similarly sported by Thanos last year in Avengers: Infinity War. Justice League Ends Box Office Run As The Least Popular DC Movie

Justice League Ends Box Office Run As The Least Popular DC Movie

Much like The Avengers was the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 1 lineup of movies, last year's Justice League built off the events of director Zack Snyder's previous DC Extended Universe movies, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. For a long time, Justice League was being touted as one of the biggest DC movies yet, and it had the potential to be one of 2017's biggest blockbusters. However, not only was the DC team-up movie met with mixed critical reaction, it also commercially underperformed, and with its theatrical run having finally come to an end, it now officially ranks as the lowest grossing DCEU movie thus far.

According to Box Office Mojo, Justice League collected nearly $658 million worldwide during its time in theaters, a little over $229 million of which came from domestic screenings. For many blockbusters, a haul like this would be considered a terrific achievement, but considering that Justice League had a $300 million budget, it's nothing to write home about, although Justice League did help Time Warner surpass its financial expectations during 2017's fourth quarter. Of the other DCEU movies, Man of Steel ranks above Justice League with $668 million worldwide, while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is at the top of the list with $873.6 million worldwide. Alas, this franchise has yet deliver a movie that hits the $1 billion mark.

It's a shame that a movie like Justice League, which could have been one of the biggest superhero movies of all time, ended up being the least popular DCEU movie commercially. Critically, Justice League earned a better overall reception than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, but it still walked away with more negative reviews than positive ones, which certainly could have played a role in not as many people going to see it in theaters. Justice League dealt with a number of issues during its production process, from Joss Whedon taking over the movie during post-production following Zack Snyder's departure due to the death of his daughter, to Henry Cavill being unable to shave his Mission: Impossible - Fallout mustache for the reshoots, resulting in CGI being used to awkwardly cover it up for his Superman scenes.

In the end, Justice League can't be be classified as a full-blown commercial disaster, but clearly audiences weren't as interested in catching it on the big screen as they were its predecessors. The DCEU is still chugging along for the foreseeable future, and several Justice League members have their own movies coming up soon. It's just a shame that Justice League ultimately didn't end up being the kind of box office success many a DC fan had dreamed about.

Justice League is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD, and if you're interested in learning what we thought of the movie, you can read our review. There's no word on if/when Justice League 2 will move forward, but the DCEU will continue on December 21 with the release of Aquaman, and Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 will follow on April 5, 2019 and November 1, 2019, respectively.

According to Box Office Mojo, Hellboy (2019) grossed just $21.9 million in its five-week run. With an opening weekend of $12.05m, the film finished with a box office multiplier of 1.81x, enough to

The Justice League movie was disappointing to a lot of people, either because it simply wasn't that great or because Joss Whedon and Warner Bros. were involved in a ridiculous conspiracy to undermine the work of true visionary like Zack Snyder, but it turns out that Justice League may have been especially disappointing to Warner Bros. executives.
