Adam Lambert Has Confirmed His Cameo In Bohemian Rhapsody

Count in another killer queen in Bohemian Rhapsody than you might not have noticed. Did you know former American Idol contestant and pop sensation Adam Lambert was in the Golden Globe-winning biopic? It's okay if you missed him, he was nearly unrecognizable in his brief cameo. Take a look:

I told you, unrecognizable! But once you put the name to the face, surely enough it's Adam Lambert, who just shared the photo on his Twitter, only he's traded his glam pop star look for one of a bearded trucker.

In the scene, Rami Malek's Freddie Mercury is on tour with Queen and stops to take a call from his fianc Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton). However, Freddie meets eyes with Adam Lambert's husky-looking character as he makes his way into the men's bathroom, lightly suggesting the beginning of Freddie's flirtation with his attraction to men.

It's a brief scene and one you might miss, especially considering how different Adam Lambert looks and his lack of dialogue, but it's probably the best "eye contact" performance in some time! Adam Lambert hinted a cameo in Bohemian Rhapsody back in November to Billboard, describing it as "very, very mysterious," and right he was.

It's no surprise that Adam Lambert would make a cameo in Bohemian Rhapsody because the pop star has been touring with Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor since 2014. No one can replace Freddie Mercury, but Lambert's vocal style and fashion swagger some real close. Adam Lambert + Queen have toured together around the world, primarily playing Queen's greatest hits, such as "We Will Rock You" and "Somebody to Love."

If you're curious, take a look at Adam Lambert + Queen's version of "Don't Stop Me Now," in a performance in Lisbon, Portugal back in 2016 below, from Queen Official:

Queen's hit may never die and it was a smart move for the remaining band members to think of Adam Lambert to play frontman every so often. Adam Lambert + Queen are hitting the North American road in summer 2019 for a 23 dates-additional victory lap after the incredible success of Bohemian Rhapsody.

At the Golden Globes on Sunday, Bohemian Rhapsody nabbed the Best Picture award and Rami Malek was honored with Best Actor for his depiction of Freddie Mercury, both in the Drama category and it's now an Oscars frontrunner. Since the Queen biopic was released in November, the film has made over $748 million worldwide and become the highest-grossing musical biopic ever to grace the big screen.

Bohemian Rhapsody hasn't seen its last days in theaters yet, as a sing-a-long version of the film is now playing at 750 locations across North America. Will you catch Adam Lambert's short cameo this time around? Keep an eye out!

To 3D Or Not To 3D: Buy The Right A Wrinkle In Time Ticket

To 3D Or Not To 3D: Buy The Right A Wrinkle In Time Ticket

Disney regularly puts on the biggest blockbusters of the year - but this time around we're not talking about Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar or even Walt Disney Animation. Rather, the studio is launching a whole new big screen experience with Ava Duvernay's A Wrinkle In Time - based on the beloved novel by Madeleine L'Engle. It also happens to be the latest 3D blockbuster effort to hit theaters worldwide, so once again we find ourselves asking that old question: To 3D or Not To 3D?

Our review of the movie dives more into the plot details and aesthetic qualities of A Wrinkle In Time, but this feature is entirely dedicated to determining whether or not it is worth it to spend a few extra dollars on an enhanced theatrical experience. Without further ado, let's break it down!

As long as we've been writing this feature here on CinemaBlend, we've been pointing out the benefits of CGI when it comes to 3D. Environments that are entirely created in a computer make it very easy to generate a stereoscopic effect - the result of which generally results in a better-than-usual effect. A Wrinkle In Time certainly qualifies in this department, as audiences are quickly transported around the universe to expansive alien worlds. Not ever film is right for 3D, but it is definitely a fit in this case.

Nowadays it's customary for big blockbusters to be planned with 3D in mind (particularly because of its popularity overseas), and such is the case for A Wrinkle In Time. It should be noted that the movie wasn't filmed with 3D cameras, which is what holds it back from a perfect five score - but it should be noted that modern conversion is recognized by experts to be up to the same standard as native 3D. There are shots that show clear intent where utilization of the effect is concerned, so we're giving it the top mark for the circumstances.

When we refer to the "Before The Window" effect, we're talking about the frequency audiences find things flying off the screen and toward their face. Sadly, this is not one of the strengths of A Wrinkle in Time's 3D. While there are a few sequences that lean towards this cool aspect of the presentation, including a great moment toward the end when Storm Reid's Meg Murray is "Tessering," but other than that there aren't much more than fleeting moments.

The "Beyond The Window" effect is certainly the arena in which A Winkle In Time excels 3D-wise... but it's still really only mediocre. There are some fantastic shots, particularly as the audience is getting introduced to a brand new portion of the universe (such as a wonderful sequence when the lead characters go flying) but there isn't much that stands out beyond that. There is a persistent sense of depth, but there weren't exactly any moments when I felt as though I was going to fall into the screen.

Ironically, A Wrinkel In Time is at large a battle between the light and the dark - and that creates both positive and negatives for the film's use of 3D. The film is thankfully very happy and bright for the most part, leading sequences to do just fine with the tint caused by the theater-provided glasses. Unfortunately, there is a big part of the third act that is set on the homeworld of an evil entity, and the darkness of that environment takes its toll on your viewing experience. Admittedly this category is a bit subjective, as different theaters project movies at different levels of brightness, but this is how I felt after seeing the film.

As I was watching A Wrinkle In Time, I repeatedly lifted my 3D glasses, allowing me to see what the screen looks like without the stereoscopic lenses. The reason for this was simple: the blurrier the observed screen, the more layers of 3D effect were being utilized. Some films are totally unwatchable like this, but Ava Duvernay's blockbuster is only somewhat unwatchable. There are certainly some sequences that are practically headache-inducing, but for the most part scenes only revealed a mild change.

Bad 3D can not only be distracting - it can cause you to feel physically ill. While some people are most susceptible to nausea and headaches than others, filmmakers can take steps to prevent both. I'm happy to report that I walked out of A Wrinkle In Time feeling just as healthy as I did going in, allowing me to give it a perfect score in this category.

Conclusion: If you do the math, 25/35 is a 71% - or a "C" grade - and that feels about right. A Wrinkle In Time is certainly aided in certain sequences by having the 3D effect, but there are other parts of the movie where you kind of forget that it exists. If it works for your schedule and your wallet to see the movie in 3D, we say go for it - but we also wouldn't recommend you going out of your way for a special screening.

Justice League's Honest Trailer Tears Into The Movie's Weird CGI

By  at January 07, 2021  , , ,  No comments
Justice League's Honest Trailer Tears Into The Movie's Weird CGI

DC Comics fans have been waiting for years to see a Justice League movie, and last November, that finally happened, with Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg coming together to battle Steppenwolf in the fifth DC Extended Universe tale. However, while it didn't earn quite the critical thrashing that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad did, Justice League underwhelmed both critically and commercially in theaters. With Justice League now available on Digital HD, the folks at Honest Trailers have selected it as their next target, and one of the main critiques is the weird CGI peppered throughout the movie.

If you compare the early Justice League trailers with the ones released in the immediate months before the movie hit theaters, you can tell that there were major changes made during post-production, particularly with the climactic battle, which changed the original dark lighting to orange everywhere. But that wasn't the only way Justice League learned hard into CGI. From Steppenwolf to the Mother Boxes to Cyborg, this was a movie that took full advantage of digital effects, and sometimes that didn't pay off. Case in point, the work done on removing Henry Cavill's mustache, which the actor was unable to shave off due to his work on Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Even if you think that this was Cavill's best performance as Superman yet, it's hard not to focus on that digitally-manipulated face. Uncanny valley, anyone?

CGI was just one of the issues that the latest Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies highlights. From behind-the-scenes troubles to inconsistent connectivity with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (we never did follow up on that warning future Flash delivered to Bruce Wayne) to so many advertised scenes not making the final cut, it's clear that Justice League didn't turn out to be one of the more cherished contributions to the superhero movie genre. However, that's not to say that Justice League didn't have some positive elements, and if Justice League 2 still ends up happening, hopefully the people working on the sequel can learn from the mistakes made on the first movie and give audiences an even better story starring DC's most famous superhero team.

Justice League is now available for digital purchase, and the Blu-ray/DVD will hit shelves on March 6. There's no word on if an extended version of the movie, Zack Snyder cut or otherwise, will ever be released. The next DCEU installment, Aquaman, hits theaters on December 21, and don't forget to look through our DC movies guide to find out what else the franchise has coming up.

Justice League's Honest Trailer Tears Into The Movie's Weird CGI

I went into Justice League with low expectations and to be honest, it sort of met them. Justice League is definitely not the worst DC movie to come out in recent years, but it's also not the best (Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman respectively).

"Justice League" is an honorable example of how to work in that mode with skill and a poker face. The inevitable return of Superman is powerful partly because Snyder and company established that his death plunged the world into a haze of despair, superstition, reactionary politics, and revolutionary-flavored violent crime.
