Walt Disney World May Add A Wreck-It Ralph Attraction, Remove One Of Its Least Popular Ones

Wreck-It Ralph is about to return to the big screen, but it looks like he might also be making a big move into Disney Parks, replacing one of the least popular attractions currently running. A new rumor indicates that a new Wreck-It Ralph based attraction may be planned for the space in the Magic Kingdom currently housing Stitch's Great Escape, an attraction that has been reduced to a "seasonal" experience, because, seriously, nobody likes it.

This isn't the first time that rumors of a Wreck-It Ralph based attraction have popped up, as a couple years ago a rumor implied that a VR racing experience based around the Sugar Rush racing game was planned for the same space. However, since then Disney has indicated that it's not planning any VR attractions, leaving those to The Void, who may actually be working on a VR experience based on Ralph Breaks the Internet, set to hit theaters in November.

However, Walt Disney World News Today is reporting on a rumor that Walt Disney Imagineering is, in fact, still working, or perhaps working once again, on some sort of Ralph theme park experience to take over the Stitch's Great Escape space. There's no indication of what the attraction could encompass, beyond the fact that it likely won't be VR-based.

If true, this will be welcome news for a lot of Walt Disney World fans. Stitch's Great Escape is not exactly the most beloved attraction in the park. It consists of a circular room where the audience straps into chairs to view Stitch in captivity, when he "unexpectedly" escapes, cuts the power, and then proceeds to mess with the audience in the dark, via the use of directional sound effects, motion simulation built into the chair, and other tricks. There is little in this world less appealing then Stitch belching in your ear and then having the smell of a chili dog waft into a room you can't leave.

It's almost certain that something will be going in that space before long, while Stitch's Great Escape is currently a "seasonal" attraction, meaning it's only open during high traffic times, it hasn't been open since last holiday season ended. It seems that whatever may be planned for the future is still in a very early stage so nothing will be built any time soon.

Stitch's Great Escape itself took over the space from the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which used the same basic attraction structure but included a much scarier alien creature, which was originally conceived to be based on the Alien film franchise. It was a generally better-received attraction but was actually viewed as too scary for young children, which eventually resulted in the ride being replaced by something more family friendly.

So far, Ralph Breaks the Internet is looking pretty good, and if it does as well as its predecessor there will be even more fans who will want to see Ralph in the park somewhere. With a major Walt Disney World anniversary on the horizon, perhaps we'll see the new attraction debut in 2021.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge promises experiences unlike anything we've ever experienced before, and the new land largely delivers. However, while Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run is certainly an innovate and impressive attraction, my favorite part of my own visit to Black Spire Outpost may have been the experience of constructing my own lightsaber.

Crews have broken ground on a new Marvel theme park at Disneyland. Attractions will include rides based on Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Avengers.

Having worked with Patrick Wilson (starring as Orm) on previous films such as The Conjuring, James Wan had a crystal clear vision for the Aquaman plans, which did include a solid dose of Black Manta. "It's very important to me that the main villain should be Patrick's character, King Orm .

Marvel will culminate the 22-film arc in the upcoming fourth movie from the Avengers franchise. The film's predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War was a giant success of 2018, so a congruous pressure is on the line for the Russo Brothers. But, the way things have been going up for Endgame, the brothers look quite proud and calm of their work.

Why Breaking Even On Tickets Is Good Enough For MoviePass

By  at April 04, 2020  , , ,  No comments
Why Breaking Even On Tickets Is Good Enough For MoviePass

MoviePass has been around for several years now, but it has only been over the past several months that the subscription streaming service has become a bigger deal. This can mostly be attributed to the fact that MoviePass dropped its prices by quite a lot. Basic packages for the service cost $9.95 a month per person, with specialty deals costing $7.95 or lower. So how is MoviePass planning to make any money? CEO Mitch Lowe recently explained on the Recode Podcast, noting,

Our goal is to get to breakeven with the subscription and the cost of goods. Then we have all these different ways that we make your life better as a customer. We know how to market films to you. You know, the studios are incredibly inefficient the way they market small films. Over the last three weeks, we bought one in every 19 movie tickets in the country, but when we promote a film, we're buying one in 10, so we're lifting. These are for subjective $50 million box office films. The studios are paying us to be a more efficient marketer of films.

So, the company is hoping for multiple revenue streams to get MoviePass into the black. First and foremost, the subscription service needs to have a lot of subscribers, and currently that number is growing every day. The company is projecting it will be over the three million subscriber mark by August of 2018. While some of those subscribers do see a lot of movies each month, a lot of them only see one or even occasionally, none, meaning the company hopes to break even off the money it is paying out for people to see movies. Then, per Mitch Lowe, it seems that other revenue streams include deals with studios to promote movies and make a little extra chunks of change. He noted deals have already been brokered with movies like Lady Bird and the new Maze Runner movie, among others. In addition, previously monetizing consumer data has been bandied about as a potential source of revenue for the company.

In order to break even on subscriptions, CEO Mike Lowe explained that it is all a balance of averages. He told Recode that there are customers with time on their hands who do see a lot of movies each month, but that's not the most common way that people are using MoviePass. Instead, he said,

Here's the trick: 89 percent of American moviegoers only go to four or five movies a year. When they join MoviePass, they double their consumption and go to about 10 a year. That's a little bit less than one a month. They balance out the 11 percent of the population that go 18 times before joining MoviePass and then after go three times a month. It works out. Over time, it actually works out to be about one movie per month per subscriber. Now, some people do go to 10, 15.

So, if you are wondering how the numbers have been working out so far, Lowe's comments do give you some indication of people's movie watching behaviors since joining the MoviePass service. All in all, while MoviePass is not in its infancy, the new price model is and it should be interesting to see how it all shakes out in the coming months and even years, especially considering that the company has a shaky relationship with some major theaters. If the company isn't making money, yet, it will eventually need to, and the service seems to be exploring multiple ways to do that.

Detective Pikachu 2 Is Already In The Works

Detective Pikachu 2 Is Already In The Works

After decades of building a large fanbase through video games, trading cards, animated stories and more, the Pokemon franchise is finally delivering its first theatrical live action movie, Detective Pikachu. The first trailer for the adaptation of the Great Detective Pikachu video game dropped last November, and although were still four months away from it being released to the masses, Legendary Pictures has already set a sequel in motion. Pika-Two, anyone? (Not an original joke, but it had to be done.)

According to THR, Legendary has tapped Oren Uziel to write Detective Pikachu 2, although no details about his take on the story were revealed. This is the latest franchise that Uziel gets to leave his stamp on. His resume already includes 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox, and along with penning the upcoming live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, hes also working on a new Supergirl movie and the Mortal Kombat reboot.

Evidently Legendary and Warner Bros are confident enough in Detective Pikachu that theyre willing to get the gears turning on a sequel this early. Given that the first trailer collected over 100 millions views online and received a lot of attention on social media, I cant say I blame them. If Detective Pikachu ends up being a hit among audiences, then no doubt the sequel will get the official green light, meaning we could see it by 2021 at the earliest. There have also been rumors about Detective Pikachu spawning a full-blown Pokemon cinematic universe, and if thats true, one wonders if Detective Pikachu 2 could lay specific groundwork for that.

Just like your average Pikachu, Detective Pikachus eponymous protagonist, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, is an electrically-charged mouse-like creature. Unlike your average Pikachu, hes also a super smart crime solver and can communicate like a human, although only Justice Smiths character, Tim Goodman, can understand him speaking English. Together, these two will work together to find Tims father, Harry, who has mysteriously disappeared. While its a good bet that Detective Pikachu 2 would pair this special Pikachu and Tim with each other again, it could also be fun to see Pikachu helping someone else solve their own mystery.

Detective Pikachus main cast also includes Kathryn Newton as reporter Lucy Stevens (whos accompanied by her Psyduck), Ken Watanabe as Detective Yoshida, Paul Kitson as Harry Goodman, Karan Soni as Jack and Omar Chapparro as Sebastian, along with Bill Nighy, Rita Ora, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere and Rob Delaney in undisclosed roles. Goosebumps Rob Letterman directed and co-wrote the Detective Pikachu script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

Detective Pikachu will be released in theaters on May 10, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on the movie. Check out our 2019 release schedule to learn what other movies open this year.
