First Once Upon A Deadpool Poster Is All About Rudolph And Fred Savage

The idea of a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 was already crazy, but the first poster is even crazier. The more "family-friendly" version of Deadpool 2 will be out this holiday season and the first poster for the movie, officially titled Once Upon a Deadpool, is going all in by including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, so you know it's a Christmas movie, and Fred Savage in a Chicago Bears jersey, because nothing says family movie like The Princess Bride . Check it out.

An early publicity image sent out by Ryan Reynolds showed Deadpool sitting in a chair reading a story to Fred Savage, who played the sick kid being told a story in the classic The Princess Bride. The poster shows that will likely be more than a one-note joke, as Fred Savage join Deadpool astride Rudolph for the poster. The movie may be eliminating all of Deadpool's naughty language, but it certainly isn't going to be any less hilarious based on this poster.

The tagline that joins the poster on the official Twitter account says there will be zero F's given, a reference to fact that one of the major changes that Deadpool 2 will need to make is eliminating all F-bombs. Ryan Reynolds shared the poster on his own Twitter account saying, "The only F word in this movie is Fred Aaron Savage." I can't help but think that this won't be entirely accurate. Traditionally, the MPAA will allow one, non-sexual, F-word in a PG-13 film and it seems to be that's just the sort of thing that Once Upon a Deadpool would take advantage of, and make a point of mentioning they're going to use it at an opportune moment.

The fact that Once Upon a Deadpool is going so all-in on the Princess Bride joke that it will use a, now very much adult, Fred Savage, as the "kid" being told a story is hilarious. You know if Peter Falk were still around he'd be part of this too. A lot of us who grew up watching The Princess Bride are now the adults enjoying Deadpool movies, and bringing the two together is strangely perfect.

Since the framing device for this PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 will parody The Princess Bride, that means that we're not simply getting a toned down version of the movie. The film will clearly include some new scenes of the story being read just as The Princess Bride did, along with some all-new narration. Fans of the Deadpool movies will certainly want to check out this new version just to see the new material. Just because the merc is going to watch his mouth doesn't mean he won't still be hilarious.

As the poster announces, December 12 will be the day that Once Upon a Deadpool arrives in theaters. It will be interesting to see if this film does box office on par with a new release or a re-release, it's sort of both things, making this a somewhat untested idea, though it's probably one other movies will consider if it works.

Spike Lee Has Plans To Do A Big, Singing-And-Dancing Musical

Over the course of his career, Spike Lee has been an experimental filmmaker -- never limiting himself in terms of tone, genre, or medium. He's directed not only numerous comedies and dramas, but also multiple documentaries, shorts, concert films, stand-up specials, Broadway plays, and more. There's very little that he hasn't tried, but there is one particular genre he has a lot of interest in, as I recently learned:

Oh yeah. I'm going to do a musical one day, for sure. I mean, there are many musical elements in my films already, but this one I want to do straight out singing and dancing, beginning-to-end high-stepping, wailing musical.

Spike Lee is having an awesome 2018 thanks to the release of the critically-acclaimed BlacKkKlansman, and with the new film now arriving on home video I had the immense pleasure of hopping on the phone with him earlier this month. At the very end of my interview I made a note of the fact that he has dabbled in all areas of directing/filmmaking, and asked if there was any other kind of project that he would love to try. It was with zero hesitation that he brought up his ambition to make a musical -- and it sounds like what he has in mind would be no rinky-dink affair.

As noted by Spike Lee, many of his movies he has already made have powerful and impactful soundtracks, concert scenes, and even some dance sequences -- looking specifically at titles like School Daze and Chi-Raq -- but it sounds like Lee's ambitions in this case go beyond what we've already seen from the director. It sounds like he wants characters breaking from dramatic situations by busting out into song and joining friends in giant choreographed dance routines totally removed from reality. And is there anyone out there who doesn't want to see him try that?

What makes Spike Lee's comments especially interesting is the fact that the movie industry is actually in the midst of a notable boom for this genre, with audiences responding in a big way to films with a major music component. The past three years have seen three big titles in this category hit theaters - Michael Gracey's The Greatest Showman, Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born, and Bryan Singer's Bohemian Rhapsody -- and they've all been massive box office hits. Lee has some real heat right now, with BlacKkKlansman standing as the second biggest hit of his career, and doing a full-blown musical might be the perfect way to capitalize.

But what exactly would the musical be? It's really impossible to say. Fitting in with the picture painted of Spike Lee above, the new project could be an original creation of Lee's own imagination, or it could just as easily be an adaptation of a story he's always been curious about. We'll just have to wait and see what awaits us in this arena.

While we wait to see what the future holds for Spike Lee, audiences everywhere can now enjoy his most recent success over and over again. Following its impressive theatrical run during the summer, BlacKkKlansman is now available for purchase, both digitally and on Blu-ray and DVD. The stars of the Bad Boys franchise, without question, are Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Their chemistry and comedic interplay is what makes those movies stand out from the buddy-cop formula pack. But one could argue that the third star of those two movies was the director, Michael Bay. The bombastic Transformers director cut his teeth early on with the stripped down and streamlined Bad Boys, then kicked it up several notches to the expected Bay-hem with Bad Boys II.

Michael Bay will not return to helm 2020s highly anticipated Bad Boys for Life. Those duties will fall to relative newcomers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. When we got a moment to speak with Martin Lawrence at the South By Southwest premiere of his new movie The Beach Bum, we asked Lawrence if it was strange doing a Bad Boys sequel without Bay, and he told us:

Well, its not so strange because Bilall and Adel are doing a great job. Its just different directors, but were still going to bring you that Bad Boys stuff.

That begs the question, is it Bad Boys simply because Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are returning, or does the franchise actually need Michael Bays attitude and visual approach? Were certainly eager to find out! Just last year, Paramounts Bumblebee proved that a Bay franchise could survive the addition of a different director. But action franchises in the past have shown mixed results when they lose their original voice.

Die Hard, for example, usually floundered when original director John McTiernan wasnt at the helm for a sequel. The Lethal Weapon franchise stayed steady with Richard Donner. And the best Terminator movies, so far, have had James Cameron in the directors chair.

Thats not to say that co-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah dont have their own opinion on how to use Martin Lawrence and Will Smith in a Bad Boys movie. Clearly they had a pitch that sold Sony on their ability to get the gig directing Bad Boys For Life. And if Martin Lawrence is giving them the thumbs up for the work that they have done on the sequel so far, then were going to take him at his word.

We dont know a ton about the plot details for Bad Boys For Life, but every once in a while, Will Smith posts an entertaining behind-the-scenes video on his YouTube page. Like this one:
